Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he told the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
