The King's Historic Point-Scoring Run Comes to a Close, But Lakers Secure Victory Over Raptors.

James understood his historic run of reaching double digits was in danger. In that crucial moment, however, it didn't concern him.

The right decision involved passing the rock – so he did. With that selfless act, the unprecedented record came to an end.

LeBron's staggering streak of 1,297 consecutive regular-season double-digit scoring performances ended during a recent game, as the league's career points king finished with eight total points during the Lakers' 123-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors. He made the game-winning assist, finding Rui Hachimura to hit a triple to win the game.

“None,” James replied after being questioned regarding the conclusion of his run. “The team got the victory.”

An Unselfish Choice Delivers Victory

James could have tried to secure the game – and preserved the streak – in the closing seconds, but he chose to make the extra pass to his teammate on the wing. Hachimura made the shot, prompting James celebrated immediately.

It's about playing basketball correctly. You always make the right play,” James remarked. That is how I operate. It's how I learned to play. That's what I've done throughout my career.”

James is very conscious exactly how many points he has at any point,” said Lakers coach the coach. He acted just as he has countless times.”

The Run's Closing Chapter

LeBron checked back into the floor one last time at under five and a half minutes to go, the result along with the historic run up for grabs. He had only six points from 3-of-15 shooting then.

He managed a basket at 1:46 left to tie the game but then missed a shot with 1:01 left that would have pushed him to ten points.

He avoided taking a subsequent shot – even though he had a chance. A teammate passed him the ball with a few seconds left, yet LeBron chose to dish it off instead of shooting.

The basketball deities, when you play it correctly, they often repay you,” Redick stated.

Reflecting on a Monumental Streak

James's streak began back in January 2007. It stood as the most extended streak of its kind in NBA history: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem had 787, and Karl Malone recorded of 575 games.

LeBron is such a team-oriented player,” remarked Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing hoops. He could have shot but due to his nature as a player and just who he is off the court, he made the team play, dished to Hachimura and claimed the game.”

Getting to ten points was usually a guarantee long before the final period. Over the course of the record, he had reached double figures entering the fourth on the vast majority of occasions coming into the contest.

Yet two of those unusual games below ten points through three quarters took place in the last week: He recorded nine points going into the fourth versus the Mavericks on 28 November, followed by six going into the fourth against Phoenix earlier in the week.

LeBron was able to extend the streak in the Phoenix game. One game later, it finished – and he celebrated regardless.

“I always just make the right play. That comes naturally, no matter what,” James affirmed. “You make the right play, the game gods are always returning the favor.”
