The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included several ensembles for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
