The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how parent company Unilever prevented the launch for a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed that he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor within a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Founders versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement escalates the continuing tension among the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that the parent company along with their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem for Support

The entrepreneur stated via an Instagram video how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, which closely resemble those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Previous Activism plus Recent Developments

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring the Israeli operation over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

The new product line is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that was first created several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Upcoming Plans

The founder stated how he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was silenced from addressing publicly by corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning worries that its independence was compromised after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the values that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
